CAMP SITE RESERVATION SYSTEM NOW ONLINE!

To help manage the camping area at ARTDU 2015, we have created a reservation system for attendees to reserve a camp site in the designated camping area. This area has been specifically prepared so it does not interfere with the general operations of the farming land.

If you have not registered for the event, do not attempt to book a camping site as your reservation will be deleted.

The camping area is broken into 3 Blocks with each camp site being 4m (13?) x 9m (29?) in size:

  • BLAST-OFF
    • This block is for those people who want to party through the night. This is located closest to the Rocket Fuel Bar. You do not have to be specifically camping here to come and have some fun.
  • COASTING
    • This block is for those who want a little bit of peace and quiet, but still be able to make some noise throughout the evening.
  • FLOATING
    • This block is for those who need a good nights rest. We request that all persons staying in this area keep evening noise to a minimum.

Reserving a camp site is free of charge and we request that you only book a single site for your particular group (eg. if you have an RV/Campervan with 3 people, this would be one site. If you and a friend have a tent each, please be considerate of others and share a site).

IN THE NOTES SECTION OF THE CHECKOUT, PLEASE INCLUDE THE NAMES OF WHO IS IN YOUR GROUP

DOUBLE TROUBLE! From New Zealand to the USA and everywhere in between, international flyers are joining in on all the fun!

Check out two of our foreign friends coming to ARTDU 2015

Rocketeer’s build for Thunda Down Under 2015: Craig Packard – Massive Attack

Flyer’s Name:            Craig Packard
Location:                    Hamilton, New Zealand
Rocket Name:            Massive Attack
Estimated Altitude:    15,000′ (4,572m)
Length:                        326cm  (10’6″)
Dia:                               140mm  (5.5”)
Proposed GLOW:       26kg  (57.3 pounds)
Proposed Motor/s:     Aerotech N2000 White Lightning

Please tell us about the project eg. why are you building it?, what do you hope to achieve (speed, height, size, enter competition, certification etc.)?, have there been any challenges or highlights to the preparation? What payloads (if any) are you carrying (cameras, electronics etc.)

The driving force behind this rocket is ARTDU 2015. It also fills a gap in my rocket collection between 100mm and 200mm airframes.

This rocket is a kit, slightly modified. The reason for going with a kit was due to the overseas venue.

Another scratchbuilt was on the cards, Until this kit arrived in NZ and the owner changed his mind in buying it.

So the kit was chosen based on its all fibreglass construction, VK nosecone and 98mm mount and the ease of shipping across the ditch. Not to mention a reliable proven design suits me well when visiting foreign lands.

The kit is a Madcow Frenzy Massive, And has been strengthened to take a decent punch.
Now has Ply/Glass laminated centering rings, A solid thrust plate and fin attachment supplemented with Kevlar fibre.

Electronics are Two Perfectflite Stratologgers and a beeline tx tracker.
Recovery is dual deploy, Drogue or brick and Main is an 18’ Rocketman.

The rocket was built over the spring/Summer. The lows were playing with Kevlar, ending up looking like a yellow wookie.

The highs have been watching all the various bits and pieces come together with the event itself and acquisition of the parts needed to build and fly this rocket.

What are you most looking forward to seeing or participating in at Thunda Down Under 2015?

I think meeting the people who exist to us in magazines and you tube. It’s the people, the projects and the first experience of an overseas launch that makes me the  most excited.
If I couldn’t fly for some silly reason, I would be just as happy to attend empty handed.

p.s. Who do we bribe to win the drag?

If you don’t already know of him, you will quickly see how he gets his name!

Rocketeer’s build for Thunda Down Under 2015: ‘Crazy Jim’ Hendricksen  – Punisher

Flyer’s Name:            Crazy Jim
Location:                   Savannah Georgia USA……where we don’t ask your name or where your from, but rather what you drink.
Rocket Name:            Punisher/PunishOZ
Estimated Altitude:    11,000′ 3/4″ (3,352m)
Length:                        132cm  (52′) loooooong
Dia:                               75mm  (3”)
Proposed GLOW:       4.5kg  (10 pounds) ready to fly……unless I fill it with helium!
Proposed Motor/s:     Sulfer-Zinc……not really, last time I tried that, there was a crater & broken windows for a 1mile radius……a CTI 6GXL 54mm K-815  skidmark

Please tell us about the project eg. why are you building it?, what do you hope to achieve (speed, height, size, enter competition, certification etc.)?, have there been any challenges or highlights to the preparation? What payloads (if any) are you carrying (cameras, electronics etc.)

This is my own personal design that I am building upon arrival to OZ. It’s way too sexy to carry on the plane & way too dangerous to ship.

It will hit around Mach 1.5 on it’s way up to La La land. Faster than having to run to the head after eating Burrito’s & drinking Bundy. [If that’s possible.]

“I am building it just because……because……because!  Because of the Wonderful Wizard I was.”
Wanted to borrow Blake’s poodle for a payload, but it won’t fit, no matter how many times I click my Ruby slippers. [oh and something about a safety code.]

For the Drag Race of course!

Maybe fly it again on a CTI 54 6GXL Mellow later if I can get one, or what ever I can find while digging around in Blake’s trailer at night, after being comatosed from drinking & chasing Wombats.

What are you most looking forward to seeing or participating in at Thunda Down Under 2015?

I am looking forward to moonlit walks on the beach, holding hands, poetry & gentle kisses. If you like Pina Colada’s……oops wrong website.

Looking forward to drinking all night, flying rockets all day with my mates, and chasing ladies……you dundering bilge rats!

Other comments:

Hell yes……I want real butter, real milk and real toilet paper plus an endless supply of real rum and real wenches……no rot-gut Bundy!!!!#$%%##@

We are……after all……real SkyPyrates!

Make it so……
